Is There Public Transportation Such As Buses?
Yes there is.
The cost to ride the bus is 10 pesos. They offer an All-Day Pass for tourists that offers hop on and hop off service. The bus normally passes our house once an hour and you can just stop it in front of the house.
You Mention Downloading And Using WhatsApp, Why?
You might want to download WhatsApp application on your cell if you don’t have it. It is an island standard and will make contacting people here on the island super easy – it allows messages and phone calls via the internet – just use this app instead of making a call that would normally charge you
How Do We Transfer To And From The Island?
You can book transfers with William Gonzales here is his information – he is easy to contact on Facebook and charges $50.00 each way
https://www.facebook.com/william.gonzalez.7545?fref=search or Mexican cell phone at 011 52 1998 168 7733. William will also pre-buy your ferry tickets if you like him to.
Another option is CARM http://www.cancunandrivieramaya.com/
This is a private van and is very reasonable if your party is 4 people or more since they charge a flat rate for the entire van. They charge somewhere in the range of $80.00 for up to 4 people. Either company will pick you up at airport and deliver you to Gran Puerto to catch the ferry to Isla and likewise pick you back up and Gran Puerto and deliver you to the airport for your return flight.
Ferry ride to island is approximately 15 minutes and a gorgeous ride; it will cost $380 pesos per person each way roughly $18.00 US and they accept US currency and Visa. You will purchase a ticket at the ferry dock. There is a little OXXO market (7-11) there to grab a soda or beer for your ride over to Isla
Luggage – the people from your transportation company and the ferry docks will assist you with loading and unloading your luggage at both locations. I normally tip these people 100 pesos for their kind assistance.
How Can We Preplan Our Trip?
I recommend you get a map from Laura at www.mapchick.com she has a great map with all the things to do and very specific to Isla Mujeres she charges $15.00 for the map plus shipping and will mail it right out to you. We have one we left at the house but having your own copy lets you plan in advance where you would like to visit.
Are There Any Grocery Stores?
There is a large new Chedraui located by the baseball fields and there are a couple decent size grocery stores that have most any item you could need one is located downtown and another located in LaGloria. The name is Super AKI. The Island has many Mom-and-Pop grocery stores that carry a variety of items and are located on almost every block. We stop frequently at the Super Ronco on the drive out the Caribbean side of the island. The fresh juice here is great and they have a bit of almost everything here.
“From the moment we landed in Cancun to the moment we touched Isla Mujeres, everything was handled so smoothly. The next morning was an incredible treat as we started our trip off with breakfast on the rooftop. I cannot begin to tell you how incredible that memory was for us. Simply a marvelous trip from start to finish”
